Main activity

The field of competence “Microanalysis” completes all main fields of activity covered by the Center for Engineering Materials where the analysis of the microstructure is required.

The main focus of the competence field is the characterization of the microstructure of materials of all classes.

The fields of activity include in detail:

such as:

  • Analysis of the chemical constituents of inclusions in the crack initiation area.
  • Analysis of chemical elements of other phases in comparison to the matrix
  • Analysis of layer compositions/thicknesses in the linescan
  • Analysis of element distribution as element mapping

such as:

  • Determination of local orientations of known crystalline phases.
  • Compilation of grain size distributions
  • Evaluation of the degree of recrystallization
  • Frequency distributions of grain boundary misorientation angles
  • Analysis of special grain boundaries like e.g. twin boundaries
  • Textures
  • Combination of chemical composition and grain orientation e.g. for analysis of diffusion processes depending on crystallographic orientation
