Welcome to the Competence Field "Material Analytics”. Here you will find our various and specific competences.

Main activity

The area of competence “Materials Analysis” carries out chemical-analytical, preparative, optical microscopic, electron microscopic, microanalytical, chemical-physical, structural and X-ray investigations. In addition to supporting the specialist departments in their areas of responsibility, the Materials Analysis competence area is active in the fields of engineering services for external clients (e.g. material characterization), product monitoring, research and development, and teaching.

A further focus is failure analysis and the preparation of expert reports. In this context, pure damage analysis is increasingly developing into damage research. This deals in depth with the clarification of damage mechanisms with the aim of damage prevention and thus contributes significantly to increasing the safety and reliability of components.

The research focus of the competence area extends to investigations of damage processes in high-strength components as a result of diffusion-controlled damage mechanisms (e.g. hydrogen- and liquid metal-induced cracking in steel parts), surface finishing by means of plasma coatings and the heat treatment of metals.

In addition, the experts provide advice on questions of materials application, materials substitution, quality assurance, damage prevention, preservation of building structures, standardization and guideline development.

The majority of the test methods used are flexibly accredited based on DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 by the Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH (DAkkS) and recognized by the responsible authorities in the legally regulated area.
