Tribology

Main activity

The core competences are in this field are, tribological aspects such as wear and wear protection. Within the scope of scientific projects and industrial research cooperations, we especially focus the following topics:

  • Execution of scientific and application-near research projects, i.a. concerning the mechanistic clarification of damages caused by tribological stresses
  • Preparation of expert reports for the evaluation of tribological or superimposed corrosive/erosive/cavitational issues
  • Friction and wear tests on surfaces and thin hard coatings from 50 °C to 800 °C with and without intermediate media or controlled humidity or gassing conditions (oscillating friction wear)
  • Oil and grease tests on hydraulic and rolling bearing lubricants
  • Investigations of erosion and cavitation wear in corrosive media and superimposed application of flow and thermal energy.
  • Determination of tribological parameters and characterization of surface topography by means of stylus methods or 3D microscopy
