Basic scientific knowledge is applied to clarify application-oriented questions and to develop efficient approaches to solve technological challenges in the following disciplines:

For these corresponding fields of competence, the Surface Technology competence area possesses the abilities, skills and facilities for successful

• processing of scientific questions and research projects,
• initiation and execution of research cooperation in collaboration with industrial and academic partners
• as well as processing basic tasks, such as damage assessment and consulting.

Furthermore, all relevant testing, examination and analysis facilities of the entire institute MPA-IfW can be used for the processing of the tasks.

We are consulting companies with regard to their specific demands about corrosion, surface treatment and corrosion protection of metallic materials as well as in questions of welding technology and the corrosion behavior of welded joints. We also deal with tribological issues in the fields of friction and wear testing, surface fatigue testing, oil and grease testing on hydraulic and rolling bearing lubricants and high-temperature wear. Further focal points are the processing of questions in the field of corrosion of metallic materials in coolants and fuels for combustion engines as well as in dampening solution additives for printing machines.
